Can you get me a cream soda
a chocolate bar
some cream crackers
a hot drink
water
“Service!”
as Sean prefaces it
Today, sitting at my desk not wanting to move
I thought
let’s switch the game for a change
so I asked him to get me a peach
He said no, because
that’s what he does
not what I do
I looked at his back as he walked out of my room
waited
and followed him back
with a bowl and a peach in it
Then I got greedy
and handed him my empty water bottle
Can you refill this for me
I asked
Earlier he had been trying to take off my glasses
using his front teeth
he tried and tried
I refused again and again
I would hate it if my lenses got scratched
as they would be by sharp objects
But I know
sometimes it takes compromise to make a deal
so I let him take off my glasses with his front teeth
In exchange
I was thirsty no more
