Nectarine

I was making oatmeal for lunch
To add some flavor
I put chunks of nectarine in it
After it was done
I waited
for it to cool down
In the mean time
I wrote a poem about my dad
I felt sad about what I wrote
and thought
It’s time to have some oatmeal
I had a spoonful
then another spoonful
After a few spoonfuls
I took a careful look
at the nectarine chunks
Who’d have thought
with Scottish oats
cooked nectarine tastes like apricot
