One morning he woke up
and said he couldn’t hear no more
He asked me to say something

I said “hello”
He said I was quiet

no faster than the ear wax that made me quiet
Joyfully he strode
said he could hear again

Again he woke up early
and said his ear hurt

pain is louder when you can hear

and went to the surgery
Ear was inspected

treatment started

Then another day passed
after another
and another
and another
and another

A week had passed

Slowly but steadily
as pain left his ear
he said he could no longer lie here
Joyfully he strode
and went back to code

Up and down his mood went
as one would at sea
With an ear that can hear
the bubbling sound was near
